Interviewing for a Production & Technical Arts course
What happens during the interview
Your interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you and learn more about your interest in technical training, and for you to find our more about us and the course. At your interview you will meet with three members of the technical theatre staff, including the course director, and you will be asked to present a portfolio of your previous work. Either before or after your interview a current student or recent graduate will give you a full tour of our facilities, feel free to ask as many questions as you wish.
Here are some things to take note of:
- All interviews take place at LAMDA in Barons Court, west London. If you live overseas then you may be able to be interviewed via Skype.
- We’ll let you know the date of your interview about two to three weeks prior to the date, but it may be shorter notice, so make sure you’re prepared.
- You will be allocated a tour time which may be before or after your interview.
- The interview will be about 20 minutes.
Application notification and waitlisting
Within two to three weeks after your interview, we’ll let you know if:
- You’re successful and we’d like to welcome you aboard.
- You’ve not been successful this time.
- You have been waitlisted for a place.
We want to see your passion for working behind-the-scenes and your determination to develop your knowledge and skills. We will ask you some set questions to give us a better understanding of your current knowledge. We’re not trying to trip you up, and we know that you are unlikely to know the answers to everything that we ask! So don't worry. The questions are to explore your broad experience and general theatre production knowledge.
We are not concerned about your academic experience or qualifications. We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or if you have any disabilities, as long as you are passionate about developing your talent and learning new skills.
Please let us know in advance if you need any adjustments or special requirements made to your interview and / or tour due to a disability. And if you have a disability that is not visible, for example dyslexia or epilepsy, please let the LAMDA Registrar know so that we can make sure any facilities are available for you if appropriate. Any information you give us won’t affect your application and will remain confidential. We’ll only let other staff members know with your permission.
There are only a very limited number of places available at LAMDA. If you’re not offered a place straight away, you may be placed on a waiting list. This means if someone who was offered a place decides not to accept their place, it may become available to you. The waitlist will be in operation until the August prior to the start of the course.

The interview procedures are intended to be fair and transparent. When you apply for a place at LAMDA, your entry is on the understanding that there is an acceptance of the professional judgement of the interview panel. The only grounds for an appeal are if you feel that your interview was not judged fairly and can clearly demonstrate the reasons why this was the case.
