Professor Mark O’Thomas (Principal & CEO of LAMDA) remembers Colin Cook.

“It is with a heavy heart that we at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) remember Colin Cook, our esteemed former Head of the Drama School, who dedicated thirty remarkable years to our institution. Colin's tenure, spanning three decades, was characterised by his unwavering dedication to the craft of drama and his profound influence on the lives and careers of countless students.

Colin's time at LAMDA was more than a job; it was a testament to his life's work and passion for the dramatic arts. His leadership was characterised by a deep understanding of theatre's power, a commitment to artistic integrity, and a nurturing spirit that allowed young talents to find and hone their voices in the world of acting.

Under Colin's guidance, LAMDA not only thrived but became a beacon of excellence in actor training, both nationally and internationally. He was a visionary who played a pivotal role in shaping the school's curriculum, always ensuring it remained dynamic and responsive to the evolving landscape of theatre and performance. His legacy at LAMDA is indelible: his Booths exercise still remains an important component in LAMDA’s actor training.

Colin was not just a colleague but a mentor and a friend to many, remembered for his wisdom, compassion, and an ever-present sense of humour.

As we bid farewell to Colin, we extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew him. His impact on LAMDA and the theatrical world will be cherished and remembered. His memory and contributions will continue to inspire future generations at LAMDA.”
